Manzanillo: a lone wind-shaped tree on the beach in front of turquoise water

~1.5 h by bike · local bus roughly hourly

Manzanillo

Quite literally the end of the road: a quiet village with a laid-back Caribbean identity and the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge.

Manzanillo, from the house’s beach guide

There’s a shipwreck to explore, refuge trails to hike and the whole flat coast road to enjoy on the way. The road is flat all the way save for two easy hills — but leave early enough that you aren’t riding home in the dark (it gets dark by 6 PM all year).
