Treetop Balcony Room 5: red walls and curtains, a mandala tapestry on the ceiling, a painted sloth and a bed under a mosquito net

What it’s like

Our most sought-after room, and there’s no question why. It sits on top of the house and up in the trees, with windows all around and a Dutch door that opens onto your own private balcony. You’ll have lots of privacy from the other rooms — it’s like climbing a staircase into your own little world.

Monkeys, sloths and toucans are your neighbours up here. Sloths are commonly seen from this room, and every now and then a family of howler monkeys comes through — with a perfect view of their favourite tree.

Inside it’s pure painted joy: red walls and curtains, a mandala over the ceiling, hibiscus and butterflies climbing the walls — and yes, a painted sloth. The fiber-optic Wi-Fi reaches all the way out to the balcony.

Questions about this room

How steep are the stairs?

Steep and narrow, almost ladder-like at one point (see the photos), but sturdy with handrails. Think about carrying luggage, night-time trips to the shared bathroom and your own comfort before booking.

Will I hear the howler monkeys?

Very likely at some point — the house describes waking up to howler monkeys, and a family sometimes passes through the tree in view of this room. Wild animals keep their own schedule, though.

Is the bathroom private?

No — like every room in the house, this room shares the house’s bathrooms (with hot showers). There are no en-suite rooms.

What time are check-in and check-out?

The house’s booking site lists check-in from 3:00 PM and check-out until 11:00 AM. Arriving late? Message the hosts so they can plan for you.

Is there air-conditioning?

Not listed. The room has a fan, a mosquito net and screened windows — it’s an open-air jungle house built for the breeze.
